2012 CSE Graduate Student Honors Competition Highlights Exceptional Research

CSE held its ninth annual CSE Graduate Student Honors Competition on November 12, 2012. The competition was the culmination of a process that narrowed the field of entrants to four finalists, each of whom gave a summary presentation on an area of their research. CSE faculty and industry sponsors from Northrop Grumman ranked the finalists’ presentations.

Our congratulations to all four finalists who presented! Following are details on their presentations:

Armin Alaghi: “Enhancing Vision via Stochastic Computing” (First Place). Advisor: John Hayes.

Zakir Durumeric: “Mining Your Ps and Qs: Detection of Widespread Weak Keys in Network Device.” (Second Place) Advisor: J. Alex Halderman.

Amjad Abu Jbara: “Mining Multiple Perspectives From Social Media” (Honorable Mention). Advisor: Dragomir Radev.

Hsin-Hao Su: “A Scaling Algorithm for Maximum Weight Matching in Bipartite Graphs” (Honorable Mention). Advisor: Seth Pettie.
